I defer to my post at A Touch of Inspiration today.  Please go have a look.  It's about Joanne Harris' book, The Girl With No Shadow.  I'm still setting up the blog, so please be patient.  :)

Author Discovery: Tate Hallaway

  • Dec. 28th, 2008 at 2:09 PM

My husband and I stopped at Half Priced Books last night and I ran across some paranormal romance books by Tate Hallaway.  Book covers tend to pull me in and hers grabbed me.  Very cute and stylish.  Falling in love with the undead has been all the rage, and surely overdone, but her books sounded fun and promised a fresh voice and POV.  Her blog states that she's from my hometown so I'm thinking I'll support my hometown gal by picking up "Tall, Dark & Dead" and giving it a go.  Here's an excerpt:

Garnet Lacey vowed never to do magic again. Not after that scene with the Vatican assassins in Minneapolis where she called on the Goddess Lilith, who left a swath of destruction so huge Garnet had to leave town. Eight months later, and several hundred miles away, she’s now the manager of Mercury Crossing, Madison, Wisconsin’s premier occult bookstore and herb emporium where the employees are prime examples of witches without a clue.

One day, just as she’s closing the bookstore, in walks trouble, with a capital T for Tall, Tough, and Tasty. She might have blown him off, except for one thing: his aura. He doesn’t have one.

That would make him dead. And a mystery to unravel. Unfortunately, the assassins Garnet has worked so hard to avoid are after her mystery man, and now she finds herself facing her own brutal past.

Cozy Mysteries

When I'm looking for some light, entertaining reading, I look to a cozy mystery.  Most are fun reads with quirky characters and the main character's profession is one I'd find enjoyable.  Here's a list of some of the cozies (or books similar to cozies) I've enjoyed:

1.  Cleo Coyle - Coffeehouse Mystery Series
2.  Susan Wittig Albert - China Bayles Herbal Mystery Series
3.  Rita Mae Brown - Mrs. Murphy Series (young postmistress who owns a cat and dog)
4.  Lillian Jackson Braun - The Cat Who *** Series
5.  Madelyn Alt - Bewitching Mystery Series
6.  Kate Collins - Flower Shop Mystery Series
7.  Janet Evanovich - Stephanie Plum Series
8.  Yasmine Galenorn - Chintz 'n China and as India Ink - Bath and Body Mystery Series
9.  Roberta Isleib - Psychologist/Advice Columnist Series
10.Lois Grieman - Psychologist Christina McMullen Series

I look forward to many more adventures by these and other cozy authors!  Here are a few websites that will give you more information on the cozy mystery:
