Many people are spooked by cemeteries, but I think they're fascinating.

As I stroll through the grounds, I read the names and dates on the headstones, take in the style and condition of the headstone itself and look at the neighboring graves for possible relatives. It's so easy to make up an entire life's story with this information. My story could be entirely wrong but it doesn't really matter.

A cemetery is peaceful and comforting on a summer day when a light breeze rustles the leaves on the trees producing pretty moving shadows across the grounds. On a damp, cloudy day, a mood settles over me and the gothic architecture and chill in the air have me dreaming of sad ceremonies, lives cut short, rain soaked cloaks and bursting hearts. Vampires sleep away the hours until sunset when they leave their crypts and hunt their prey. Night brings memories of truth or dare, teenagers hanging out to smoke in secret, visions of creatures that aren’t really there, and fear of what is and what isn’t and what might be.

Cemeteries hold many stories and they also hold beautiful creations of stone. The following photos show some of these beauties housed in cemeteries all over the world.

When I drive by a nearby cemetery that resides just across the street from a two-year college, I can't help but imagine that I'm a student there, who packs up her stakes each night and heads out to patrol the cemetery grounds.  There'd be at least one or two vamps to cross my path and I'd send them packing in better-than-Buffy style.

Just imagine what you'd hear if the dead could tell their tales.  Better yet, take a walk through a nearby cemetery and create a few tales of your own!
